Spark - Mobile App
Idea was to create a mobile app that allows people to experience a new city to its fullest potential and caters to their individual interests. The app allows people to learn more about a new destination guided by an intelligent itinerary map
MY ROLE
We were a team of three UX designers responsible for producing all the deliverables and presenting for our 'Prototyping' class project. I was responsible for creating the final visuals (Sketch) and prototype (InVision).
CUSTOMER INSIGHTS & IDEATION
We conducted 9 interviews and tried to understand the problems people face when they travel to a new place.

INTERVIEW FINDINGS:

After the preliminary interviews, we discovered user’s main pain points and geared our app toward improving the experience of a traveler. We introduced some other ideas to get their feedback. They liked the idea of the podcasts but seemed to be more drawn to the idea of being able to create a path based on their interests. For this reason, we decided to focus our application more on that function towards providing intelligent directions.

PAIN POINTS:

-
People use separate websites and apps to plan a travel, read reviews and find “must see” spots
-
Navigation from one place to another, involving food stops and bookmarked stops, using optimal modes of transportation

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Travelers rely on multiple application to find places to eat, plan itinerary and navigate through different places. We tried to create an all in one solution that caters to all user needs
PLANNING
STAGE 1 - DISCOVERY
Our preliminary research revealed travellers pain points, motivation and areas that needed attention. After designating persona types and aligning this with our phasing strategy we were able to prioritise who we would be focusing on supporting in the early stages. Through careful analysis of our research, we identified sufficient behavioural variables to segment our user audience.
Primary Persona

Secondary Persona

STAGE 2 - REQUIREMENT
Synthesising goals from our research served as a lens through which we could consider not only what the app should do, but also how it should feel. After reviewing other travel applications and websites available in the market, we discovered that each hosted different functionalities critical to the user, however there was no way to integrate them into one streamlined application.
BRAINSTORMING:

Initial whiteboard session...

state of mind.... scattered
Affinity mapping - being organized

trying not to pose :)
STAGE 3 - FRAMEWORK
We took a top-down approach to define the overall structure of the experience. including sketching and storyboarding. All our team member contributed their ideas. here are the ones I contributed to the project. Starting broad - our vision began evolving into something tangible. We created different fidelity prototypes
